Large numbers of Islamic State fighters have become ill with a deadly flesh-eating disease known as Leishmaniases

Due to the lack of poor hygiene and pollution in Islamic State territory, those at the highest risk are in Raqqa, so-called Islamic State’s capital. Since the Islamic State moved into territories most medical organizations got up and left, one of those NGO’s are Medcins Sans Frontieres who were initially trying to fight the deadly diseases.

Local medics in most areas affected are not equipped or experienced enough to deal with the spread of the contagion helping it spread dramatically among the population. Leishmaniasis disease is a very contagious spread by parasites and the bite of certain types of sand flies. It leaves human flesh with wide open sores, different forms can cause skin ulcers, enlarged spline and liver as well as creating other complications for the host of the disease as well as those around them.
