Protesters took to the streets of Thailand stating their objective, to overthrow the political apparatus of the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The Shinawatra government was accused of widespread abuse and corruption all the way to the highest levels of government.
Now that the former Prime minister is gone his sister, Yingluck Shinawatra has taken the reigns of power, but the people see her as just another puppet filling in for her brother.
Because of the widespread abuses of power and accusations of corruption it left very few among the police with sympathy towards the Shinawatras, this might explain the events that took place on the streets of Thailand when police laid down their helmets, shields and batons in solidarity with the marching protesters.
The move by the police came as a surprise to many, this came in light of the call for protesters to storm Bangkok Metropolitan bureau in the overall plan to topple the government.
